Next Tuesday, November 10th from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, there is a a special SIG Series webinar: Tales from the National Forum on Active Learning Classrooms

The WSU Learning Spaces Team attended the National Forum on Active Learning Classrooms at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities this summer and learned a lot. With topics ranging from picking whiteboards to better integrating classroom design into your campus strategic planning efforts, the conference was a treasure trove of good practices, pictures of cool new classrooms, links to useful information, and pro tips. Join us as we share what we learned at this amazing gathering. If you didn’t get a chance to go, this session will be a great opportunity to zoom in on the highlights. If you went, we would love to compare notes!

Ken Graetz, Tom Hill, Stephanie Stango, Dave Burman, and Eric Wright are all part of the Winona State University Learning Spaces Team and members of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Services unit of Information Technology Services. They attended the National Forum as a team this summer and were able to cover almost all of the sessions. Each brings a unique perspective to the discussion, from under-the-hood classroom systems design and configuration to instructional design and pedagogical strategies.

Exploring Affordable Course Content: The University of Minnesota Libraries Partnership for Affordable Content Project

Thursday, November 5, 1:00 – 2:00 pm

Session Description

The cost of textbooks and course materials continues to rise and has created financial hardships for many students. In response to this dilemma, the University of Minnesota Libraries created the Partnership for Affordable Content, a competitive grant to help faculty find and use alternative, high-quality, low- or no-cost materials for their courses. The Partnership provides faculty with the opportunity to explore innovative course content options from Open Textbooks to student created course content. Customized teams including library subject and technology specialists and other campus partners focused on teaching and learning will support the creation of innovative, alternative course content. This session will discuss the initiative including goals, project design, proposals received and reviewed, library team development, and next steps.

SCSU represented at the QM 7th Annual Conference

QM logoRoseann Wolak,  a member of our Academic Technologies Team, is presenting today in San Antonio, TX on the implementation and transition from a face-to-face to fully online program in Nursing, at St. Cloud State University.

SCSU Online and our team has been helping the Nursing department on a weekly basis to introduce online courses that meet the quality standards set by the QM Rubric. Roseann is representing St. Cloud State University at a major conference, describing the steps and challenges of this transition. Her presentation “From the Ground Up: RN to BSN Completion” can be found here.

In last week’s post,  I have announced that the presentation materials from the Quality Matters 7th Annual conference are available. Now, take a look at Roseann’s as she is presenting today.

We hope to help many more departments at our university with quality assurance and online courses/programs transitions.
