IEC Student Spotlight: Ondari Eric Nyabuto

The IEC welcomed 10 new students this spring, all from different countries. We are very happy to have such a diverse program this semester. We look forward to getting to know each of them this semester.

Our latest IEC student spotlight features one of new students, Ondari Eric Nyabuto, from Kenya. He placed into Level 5 of the IEC program, our highest level.

Keep reading to learn a little more about Eric and his goals.

What place would you like to visit in the United States?

“I would like to visit the Headquarters of the General Conference of Seventh Day Adventists in Maryland and I hope to meet the people that work there.”

What are your hobbies?

“During my free time, I like to shop at JCPenney and K&G for my clothes, and I go to Walmart for groceries. I like to write essays. I play hockey, volleyball, and soccer. And I go to the gym to work out.”

What are five goals you want to achieve by the end of the semester?

“At the end of the semester, I would like to have at least 3.75 GPA. I would like to enhance my vocabulary skills to be more fluent when I talk to people. I would like to improve my reading and comprehension skills. I would like to give a presentation during the graduation ceremony. I would like to make some friends, learn, and appreciate other cultures. At the end of the program, I would like to bring myself back to a more professional English. It will help me a lot during job interviews.”

Why did you choose to attend IEC?

“I am writing essays on my life and family experience. The reason I chose to join the IEC program is to improve my English so I can write more essays. The IEC also prioritizes technology and I want to be more familiar with the Microsoft apps.”

What kind of food do you enjoy the most in the United States?

“I like chicken biryani with some rice and peas. I also like tandoori murgh, aloo naan and mango pudding.”

What food do you miss from home?

“The foods that I miss are definitely ugali manage and naziwa lala.”
