According to Venture Beat, Epic Games has recently had a successful round of funding, raising a sum of $1 billion for its proposed digital reality world
The metaverse idea of connecting all of Epic Games’ titles is an ingenious way of integrating one game after the other, becoming the common ground for all games, each player with their avatars. This highly resembles “Ready Player One’s” OASIS metaverse, which is a digital, virtual, and augmented reality that leads to different online platforms.
Apple’s known interest in this field has so far focused more on augmented reality (AR) than virtual reality (VR), but the recent reports point to a mixed-reality device, which would be mostly VR but including some real-world elements.
Lots of words will be typed about how it compares to the real thing. Here, let me save it for you, it doesn’t. Real life is analog, far sharper, far more interesting, and far more fun than anything you can experience in VR. Even for decades to come.
VR is more accessible than real life and, soon, the numbers of attendees will dwarf those who can attend in real life (somewhere around 70,000 attended last year). It is more interactive (and you can navigate it much faster). It is more comfortable for sure. Are these tradeoffs worth not going?

The global COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted normal face-to-face classes across institutions. This has significantly impacted methods courses where preservice teachers (PSTs) practice pedagogy in the field (e.g., in the PreK-12 classroom). In this paper, we describe efforts to adapt an assignment originally situated in a face-to-face school placement into a virtual version. By utilizing multi-perspective 360 video, preliminary results suggest virtual field experiences can provide PSTs with similar experiences for observation-based assignments. Acknowledging that immersive virtual experiences are not a complete replacement for face-to-face field-based experiences, we suggest virtual field assignments can be a useful supplement or a viable alternative during a time of pandemic.

3 Instructional Design Strategies For Virtual Reality Learning
“VR gives a superior sense of what is happening in the molecular world – you can zoom in and out, and move around in an intuitive way. It makes it much easier to see molecular structures and key parts of a reaction, which is not done as well via other modes,”
Each learning activity led a pair of students through a series of tasks. They built a molecule, then followed the journey of the enzyme reaction.
Students found the ‘tactile’ experience of VR engaging and they were able to quickly build and move molecules to see how they interacted. Watching the students walk around, bend over and peer around virtual objects was a highlight for the team.
