Global issue

“Majorities in 40 nations polled say climate change is a serious problem, and a global median of 54% believe it is a very serious problem.” Latin Americans and sub-saharan Africans are extremely worried about climate change, compared to the US and China that have the highest carbon dioxide emission, and are less concerned. This global issue is that many argue that this does not matter and will not affect us anytime soon, and the other side that believes it is real and it is a problem now.

A global median of 51% say climate change is already harming people, and that this issue needs to be dealt with now and not ignored.

Most think that to deal with climate change, there needs to be changes in policy and lifestyle as soon as possible.

Why is climate change important? People are affecting climate through emission of greenhouse gases from fossil fuels. Also, the world has been getting warmer. The average temperature of the Earth’s surface has increased by 1.4F in the last 100 years. From this, the future may hold shortages in freshwater, floods, storms, heat waves and etc.

Some ways to combat climate change:

  • get involved
  • be energy efficient
  • eat wisely
  • fly/drive less

Intoduction

Decided to make a post to introduce myself. My name is Nellie and I am 20 years old, studying for business marketing. I am originally from Moscow, Russia, and have moved back and forth to Minnesota all my life.

I think it would be interesting tie this in with social media, and this class. Social media and communication is different around the world. In russia they mainly use a website called Vkontakte, which is basically the same thing as facebook, but in Russian (if you tried visiting the website it would be in english unless you change the language).

If it wasn’t for social media, people could not connect around the world. I can easily log onto my account and see my cousins photo when she is across the world, which is awesome.

How social media makes us unsocial

If you think about it, being active on social media or using technology takes so much time out of our daily lives, but are we really being social? Have you ever been at a restaurant and seen a family or group of friends all on their phones, but not talking to each other? This is the effect – we are all social in the wrong place.

Watch this Ted Talk video, Allison Graham makes some very good points, and this video shows how technology and social media have changed people and how social they are.

How social media is reshaping news and facebook

Did you know that Facebook is one of the most used sources for news? Roughly 2/3 of US adults use this site to get news. Youtube is another website people get news from, watching videos. What is the news experience like on Facebook? About half of FB users see 6 different topic areas on a regular basis. Most of the new on Facebook is entertainment related.

I also read/see/watch videos of news/articles on Facebook the most. It is easy to access, most of the time visual and interesting, and almost all news and articles are popular and talked about a lot. News on social media is great because you can repost it for others to see/learn, you can share an opinion or comment, as well as ask others questions about the topic.

Marketing

For someone who is planning on doing business marketing in the future, this article was interesting to me. It is about blogging for the purpose of marketing, and blogging is a way of social media – which relates to our topic.

3 Benefits of blogging for marketers:

  1. content strategy – marketers make sure the content is interesting and welcoming to consumers.
  2. Demographic targeting – it’s great to have a blog dedicated to a target market, to provide specific information for them, for example the Microscope.com blog, sells anything related to microscopes. Their target is educational and research institutions. Their posts engage the readers and inform the clients/readers.
  3. Authority building – it is very important to build your brand/company and spread the name around for more people to get interested. Blogging is a different but interesting way of advertising, where you can post a photo, video or audio about the product.
