Thriller Recommendations

Hello Everyone,

I don’t know about the rest of you but I am personally taking full advantage of the week off of required textbook reading to get some leisure reading done. In my opinion, a thriller is the perfect type of book to pickup when you have only a little bit of time to finish a book. Here are some of my favorite thrillers that I have read and that I think would be good options if you are looking for something to read quickly,

I don’t know about the rest of you but I am personally taking full advantage of the week off of required textbook reading to get some leisure reading done. In my opinion, a thriller is the perfect type of book to pickup when you have only a little bit of time to finish a book. Here are some of my favorite thrillers that I have read and that I think would be good options if you are looking for something to read over spring break in order of my favorites:

1. I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid

I read this entire book in one day because I absolutely could not put it down. This novel is a psychological thriller that slightly crosses the line into horror. This book is a trip from start to finish and it is one of those novels that will leave you starting at a wall for an hour after finishing it. Reid created a story unlike anything I have ever read before and it is so amazingly creepy. I will never stop telling people to read this book. However this book may be a little polarizing so I encourage you to make sure you are in an okay head-space before picking it up, and if you are someone who needs trigger warning please look them up before starting this book! This book was also recently made into a movie through Netflix, and while the adaptation was definitely a very loose one and the movie was not my favorite after reading the book, that option is still there!

2. The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

The Night Swim was also a book that I read in 2 or 3 days and absolutely could not put the story down once I started. This novel follows a couple of different storylines, one following a podcaster who is covering a new story in a story in a small town, and a past storyline that interweaves itself with the present. Because this story followers a podcaster, certain chapters are actual episodes of her podcast which makes for a very interesting format of this novel. If you are someone who enjoys audiobooks I highly recommend listening to this book on audio specifically for the podcast episodes because it is basically like listening to a podcast. Once again if you are someone who needs trigger warnings please look into them before picking up this book because this book does discuss some serious topics. Overall, this was such a fun story and format to read.

3. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

This novel did admittedly take me a little longer to finish than the first two, however this book has so many twists and turns that it was entertaining the entire way through. This book follows a reporter returning home to her small town to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Like I said before this novel has so many twists this book just has an overall creepy atmosphere that will leave you just slightly unsettled. Once again please read trigger warnings before reading this novel as it discusses serious topics.

4. The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

Along will the others on this list, I consumed this novel fairly quickly. If you were to look up the synopsis of this novel, you will not find out much. So sticking to this idea I will recap the synopsis from the inside of the cover flap: “assume nothing.” You will think you have this book figured out, and you will be wrong. From the title you can assume you will be reading about a complicated love triangle, but once again “assume nothing.” This book will leave you feeling like your brain is broken, at least in my case. This book also covers not as serious topics as the others of this list, so if the other ones don’t work out for you maybe check this one out!

Let me know if you have read any of these and your thoughts on them if you have! See you all next week with more recommendations!
