You’ve spent the last four months reading, testing, studying, etc. Now, summer is here and you get to take a much needed break. Summer is the perfect time to relax… but it’s also the perfect time to get. things. done. So, how do you make the most of summer break?
1. Send Out Some Thank You’s
There is no better way to make a good impression than showing you appreciate someone. Take time to send a few thank you emails to professors, advisors, or other faculty who helped you throughout the semester. This is a great use of time and will make it easier to ask for a letter of recommendation later on.
2. Learn Something New
Summer time is perfect for learning a new skill. With the internet at your fingertips, you have access to tons of tutorials on a varying range of topics. Whether you learn a new program or how to refurbish furniture from thrift stores, all skills are useful.
3. Listen Up
Start listening to a new podcast. If you commit to listening to even one episode per week, you can be much more well versed in the topic of your choosing after a few months. Pro tip: there are tons of podcasts for young professionals that will help you get ahead in your career.
4. Create an Internship
We know many students work full time during the summer, and although you may not have time this summer for a formal internship, you can get some experience independently. Contact local businesses and employers in your area and offer your services. This will help you stand out while allowing you the possibility of furthering important skill sets.
5. Resume Renovation
Many times, your resume will speak to potential employers before you do. This is why it is extremely important to consistently update and polish this document. Over the summer, we are open from 8am- 4:30pm to help you get your resume in top shape. We also have online resources that will answer some basic resume questions and help you to get the ball rollin’.
