Top 5 Places to Eat in Alnwick

Quick Taste of Alnwick

Picking only five places to eat in Alnwick is difficult. Within walking distance of the castle to the far side of Alnwick, you will find a huge range of food. Every student will tell you the best place and will argue with everything I list in this blog. But the list below is correct and I will stand by my choices. *Note: I have no dietary restrictions or aversions, but most places within the UK will have options for vegan and gluten-free individuals. So some of these items may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but these are my favorite places to go to in Alnwick.

  1. Costa Coffee
I am starting this list out with coffee. But Jake, coffee is not food. I am obsessed with coffee and so number one will always be coffee. Large Latte for take-away please! If you are a Caribou or Starbucks person, this is similar as it is a chain coffee place. They have a great seating area if you need to get out of the castle to do school work or just to relax. Now if you are strictly a tea drinker, they have tea but this is not about tea. If you want to know about tea, you can read our previous post. But coffee is better.

  1. Greggs
Starting out your day with Greggs for breakfast is the best. A bacon roll with brown sauce. This consists of a bread roll with bacon and brown sauce. That is it. Simple and Delicious. Now bacon in the UK is different from in the US so be prepared. It is more like overcooked ham or undercooked bacon. But, if you love bacon, you will love this. I cannot explain it but the bacon roll is something I dream about.
  2. Strawberry Lounge
For breakfast, lunch, or a snack, you will find something you love. The thing you must get when you are there is the savory or sweet scones. They have a large variety and they are baked daily. Make sure you plan the time and day to go as they have limited hours (Wednesday – Saturday, 10am – 3pm).
  3. Pizza Royale
Warning: this is controversial and cause for argument with anyone who has been to Alnwick and I am sure I will anger some of the other Alnwick alum with this choice, but Pizza Royal is the best. Sorry not sorry. The options available gives you the ability to share, or if you are like me, have your own. There are also options for Cheesy Chips and Garlic. PLEASE get this. If you like fries and cheese, you will not be sorry.
  4. Tie: Dirty Bottles and the Black Swan
If you are looking for a place to sit down and eat with a fun atmosphere, these are the places to go. The Dirty Bottles has a variety of food options including vegan and gluten free options. Be aware that the portion sizes here are big even in US standards. The Black Swan (or some of you may know it as The Hairy Lemon), has great pub food!

While this list is a very small list of places in Alnwick to eat, it gives you a quick idea of the food you can have while in Alnwick. If you want to find them all, guess you will have to go there! Apply today!
