Pageant Problems

If you are familiar with the TV show, aired on TLC, called, “Toddlers and Tiaras” you will know exactly what I am talking about when I say three year olds in fake eyelashes. However, when I use the words, three year old dressed as a prostitute, the thoughts crazy, wrong, and disgust come to mind. Now what if I told you, Toddlers and Tiaras and three-year-old prostitutes were used in the same situation, what would you think then? Playing dress up is something I always enjoyed as a little girl, however sometimes moms, and their precious princesses, take it a bit too far. Take a look at the article http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/12/opinion/henson-toddlers-tiaras/ to see exactly what I am talking about.

Sexualizing a three year old is completely wrong, consequently, there are many ways in which this is done. For one, the media is constantly releasing advertisements that reveal women of all ages in revealing clothing. Movies, even in children films, display sexual scenes to a certain degree. Therefore, in today’s society, children are learning far too young the desire to be sexy and revealing. Putting a three-year-old in a prostitute costume to win a contest, one has to ask, are you kidding me? How has it come to this?
