As most of you know from previous blogs, I am majoring in Mass Communication. Originally, I came to St. Cloud State University to do broadcast, however I discovered my real passion is behind the camera instead. After a lot of reflection and thought, I decided to switch from Mass Communication- TV Broadcast to Mass Communication Photojournalism. My goals for the future include becoming a photojournalist, preferably for sports, and having my own photography and videography business on the side. Recently, I have started my photography business by offering multiple free photo-shoots in order to get my portfolio started. I have also created an Instagram page, Facebook page, YouTube page, and started creating my website. Publicizing the business I feel is the most challenging mostly due to the people and followers I do and do not have. I am from a small town, therefore my audience so far is those who live around me, and who I grew up with. However, I want to reach a larger audience to expand my followers and customers. In an article I found that is titled, “15 Tips to Grow a Social Media Audience for Your Startup”, the author stated to “cross promote your social accounts.” I have tried linking all of my accounts so multiple arranges of audiences could reach me, however I have gotten very slow interactions. I am looking for more tips and ideas as how to start a business I hope will become great one day. I also know that it will take a lot of time, patience and the right connections in order for this to become successful, but my biggest hope is that social media can be the starting platform.
