Bulb, Idea

Create-a-thon was a very fun event with a lot of exciting submissions from 6 teams and below are the ideas generated during our first Create-a-thon hosted on November 21st, 2020.

Team 1: Alexa Skill: Huskies Help

Team 1 won first place for the Alexa Challenge where they created a skill, Huskies Help which helped students get quick information about the buildings around campus and answer questions related to the university.

Team 2: Alexa Skill – How Many Days/Academic Q&A Support

Team 2 won second place for the Alexa Challenge where they created a skill, Q&A Support for St. Cloud State students. The skill helped students get the list of list deadlines and important events happening on the campus and also find common interests with other students.

Team 3: Connecting Through eSports

Team 3 won the first for overall winners in the Create-a-thon event. They designed and prototyped a website for the students who are into gaming. It would showcase students streaming games around the St. Cloud Community along with other gamers present around to connect with.

Team 4: HuskyHubLocal. Safe. Secondhand.

Team 4 won 2nd place as the overall winner in the event. They created a tool for students to buy and sell used items around the St. Cloud Community. As basic as it sounds, it would really strengthen the community by connecting people with strangers and help students sell & buy all kinds of school-related stuff such as books without hesitation.

Team 5: Mental Health Support System

Team 3 won the honorable mention in the Create-a-thon event for their awesome Mental Health Support System idea. Using the support system, students would join a centric D2L BrightSpace course as a safe place to discuss mental health and provide support to each other.

Team 6: Activities on Campus

Team 6 presented a slide about the organization and activity available to students where they can meet people from South-east Asia and hang out with.

Team 7: Studdie Buddie

Team 7 won third place as the overall winner in the Create-a-thon event for their awesome Studdie Buddie idea. This was the most creative idea out of all to enrich a student’s online learning experience even for students with some disabilities. The software would take any raw video and use text analysis to pick up important words. It would then automatically create well-rounded notes of the given material for students to preview later.

These are all the submissions for this year. More will be added as we organize the events in the future.
