The Educational Administration and Leadership Program is pleased to announce that Amy Christensen, Ed.D. has joined the program as a member of the faculty.

Amy received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota – Morris in Elementary Education and Coaching. She began her teaching and coaching career in a small town in southwest Minnesota. During her 10 years of teaching elementary, she completed her Master’s in Education through Southwest State Minnesota and received 6th Year Certification (Principal, Superintendent, and Community Education) from St. Cloud State University. She also accepted her first administrative position as the Superintendent/K-8 principal at Lynd Public School as she was wrapping up her administration classes. After a year in that dual role, she moved to RTR Elementary School where she was the principal for 9 years. During her tenure there, the school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School! She also completed her Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership through SCSU as part of Cohort 1 and began adjunct teaching at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in Marshall. From there, she moved into Higher Education and spent the past four years at SMSU as the Director of Placement and Licensure. Some of her other duties included edTPA and LiveText Coordinator and adjunct professor. She began her position as Assistant Professor at SCSU in August; and currently teaching courses in the Master and Post-Master Degree Programs.

In her spare time, she keeps busy following her three children. Her oldest daughter just started at Minnesota State University, Mankato majoring in Business Management. Her son is in middle school and active in football, basketball, and golf. Her youngest daughter is in 5th grade. She participates in volleyball, basketball, and student council. Between school and sporting events, she and her kids are constantly running around to activities! If she does have a free moment, she enjoys reading, working out (Zumba, T25, and walking), and shopping. She loves to travel and reflects it as a blessing to get to go to Italy and Greece this summer with her oldest daughter for a wonderful 10-day experience!

As a life-long learner, she has enjoyed preparing and teaching new courses this semester. She also enjoys researching and presenting so she has been busy with that as well. Her interests include school and instructional leadership, literacy and writing, technology and differentiated instruction to enhance student learning. She is excited to be at SCSU and looks forward to working cooperatively to prepare the aspiring school leaders.

Congratulations Amy!
