Gratification vs. Happiness

Gratification vs. Happiness

Mykim Tran

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/gratification-vs-happiness-mykim-tran/

people confuse gratification with happiness because they both give a good experience at the beginning. However, the good feeling from gratification only lasts for the current moment or not as long as happiness. Gratification is anything from outside yourself that make you feel good.

rushing through school to get a diploma and not learn anything will not bring you happiness. A diploma is a piece of paper that is outside of yourself.

Happiness is when you build qualities within you, for example, when you build your self-confidence, self-esteem, kindness, honesty, knowledge, etc. These are qualities that develop within yourself. The stronger these qualities become, the happier you will become.

Dealing with Research Frustrations

a quick list of some items to consider when you are researching:

Keep a research journal. It can be virtually or on paper, or both. keep track of all of the following: different section(s) with all of your ideas and thoughts, what you have accomplished, your goals on what you want to accomplish in the project in increments, your references and citations, your research meeting notes, your literature review notes, and topics that you wish to explore in further research. Also, write down everything: what you used, when you used it, what you tested on what day.

Stick with your research, even when things don’t go as planned or if you get unexpected results.
Research may feel awkward and confusing at first, even in the literature review phase when you are trying to find a research question or researching more methods that will help you in your research.
Don’t over think your research. have a clear, concise research question that you can always go back to stay on task. But, if you get side-tracked, right down any other related research questions that you can potentially go back to for future studies.

Always have a research mentor.

Use your resources that are in front of you. The internet is your friend. if you are having trouble finding a topic, article, or technical issue, seek out help, starting with a simple Google search. You can connect with research and reference librarians, freelance writers, ghost writers, potential references, authors and editors, local libraries and their catalogs

Online Discussion Space for Your Classes

How to Create an Online Discussion Space for Your Classes – And Why to Try It

How to Create an Online Discussion Space for Your Classes – And Why to Try It

Creating an online discussion space, often referred to as a backchannel, is one of the ways that nearly all teachers can create more opportunities for students to interact with them and their classmates.

Yo Teach! is the closest thing to TodaysMeet

Backchannel Chat is a service through which you can create an online discussion space for your students. In your Backchannel Chat discussion rooms you can post comments and questions for your students to respond to. Your students can respond in real-time. Students can ask you and their classmates questions within the confines of your Backchannel Chat room. The free version of Backchannel Chat limits you to 30 participants at a time.

Swedish School Reform

A Cautionary Tale To Be Had From Swedish School Reforms

https://www.socialeurope.eu/a-cautionary-tale-to-be-had-from-swedish-school-reforms

One of the issues dividing the two main parliamentary blocs is whether there should be a cap on profit margins for publicly funded private schools.

The Swedish school system has received considerable international attention in recent years due to alarming test scores in the OECD’s international PISA study

Segregation is one of the most serious social problems facing Sweden and many other wealthy nations.

recent report (the English title would be “A Nation Divided – School Choice and Segregation in Sweden) that I have co-authored for the Stockholm based think tank Arena Idé shows that well-educated and Swedish-born families increasingly opt out of schools where the children have parents with lower educational attainments and an immigrant background. We also show that this “white flight” in Swedish municipalities throughout the country is increased by school choice and other reforms introduced in the early 1990s, whereby publicly financed private schools are allowed to compete with municipal schools for school vouchers allotted to each individual student.

The results in our study should be viewed in light of two recent reports: one from the OECDand another from UNICEF, both highlighting the inequality in the Swedish school system.

The results make it painfully clear that the Swedish school system effectively works against the very idea that schools should level the playing field for students from all backgrounds and give every child equal opportunity. Even after the rise of right-wing populism in Sweden, our established political parties have proven themselves unable, or unwilling, to rein in the highly unregulated Swedish school market.

International Journal of Innovative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

Plamen Miltenoff was selected to serve on the Editorial Review Board (ERB) for the International Journal of Innovative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (IJITLHE).

“Your term as a board member starts January 2019 and you will be expected to review up to 4 articles a year for the next 2 years. IGI Global advises to have up to 5 reviewers per article, so if the journal were to receive numerous submissions, I may need some volunteers to review additional articles. If that situation were to take place and you would like to be contacted to review more articles, please let me know and I will make a note.”
