Fall 2019 Message from the IEC Director
Wow how time flies. It seems like just yesterday we were beginning classes. Trees were full with bright green leaves, squirrels scampering about campus, and the university was filled with the excitement of another year. Through the semester you have studied hard and learned more English than you thought possible. And you learned more than English. Think of everything you’ve done: trips to Pioneer Days to see how life was 100 years ago, to Mille Lacs and the Objibwe Indian Museum, and you carved jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. It is now winter. Trees are bare and sleeping, resting their limbs and roots and awaiting spring. Snow has visited us already and more is on its way, that is for sure. Was this your first time to see snow? Wow what a semester it has been.
Who knew you could learn and experience so much in just one short semester? One thing is for sure, you have grown as a person over this semester and the experience you’ve had will last you a lifetime. Whether you are an exchange student and going home, or you are returning to St. Cloud and/or the IEC in the spring, the IEC hopes you will look back on your time in the IEC as one of the best times in your life, where you met people from around the world, improved your English, learned more about US culture, and broadened our world view.
Dr. Michael Schwartz
