Online Service Learning Project

Exploring innovative service learning activities for online classes is the goal behind How Can I Create an Online Service Learning Project?, the 20-Minute Mentor video from Magna Publications, now available for purchase.

Online classes pose a special problem for faculty wanting to do service learning. These students expect greater flexibility and the ability to fulfill assignments at their computer—conditions that are not particularly conducive to traditional service learning opportunities.

How to structure a call to action activity and how to guide online students in choosing topics that stimulate them. Particular emphasis is given to coming up with a topic that ignites student ambition, but which can be realistically executed in the allotted time. You learn how to help them establish sensible schedules, prepare interim updates, and submit a final report.

digital citizenship bibliography

From MyFunCity to government-structured approach to “digital citizenship,” this is recent trend, which is seriously considered by educators as a must in the curricula. While habitually connected with technology classes, it is a much larger issue, which requires faculty attention across disciplines; it encompass digital and technology literacy, netiquette and online behavior (cyberbulling most frequently addressed), as well qualities and skills to be a functional and mindful citizen of a global world.

Alan November: How Teachers and Tech Can Let Students Take Control

http://blogs.kqed.org/mindshift/2013/02/alan-november-how-teachers-and-tech-can-let-students-take-control/

HI, I am honored that you have written this piece about some of my ideas about preparing students for their future. Here is a link,http://novemberlearning.com/re… to an article where I describe the detail of various jobs that we can now give students. Of course, we can ask students to invent their own jobs as well. Alan
