Per MnSCU System Office:
We are still seeing a backlog in the email queue for D2L notifications, and delays of 10-20 hours before users receive the email messages. The mail is moving, but new messages are coming in as fast as old ones are going out, so the queue level remains high.
We have escalated this issue on our internal IT teams as well as with D2L. We will keep you informed of the status as we continue the investigation.

If you forget to check the box in front of auto export
and the quiz grades do not get exported to the D2L grade item, please consider this “SCSU TechInstruction” YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMDXcx_INU4, how to fix the problem

Update on D2L issues in Chrome browser:
Chrome 32 has resolved the issue with miniature-sized frames inside some D2L tools.
Chrome 32 has introduced a new issue with D2L at screens that bring up a separate window with a list of options, such as “Insert Quicklinks”. After a lengthy wait time, a blank window displays in the pop-up and does not populate with information.
D2L has identified this as a browser bug that Google Chrome intends to fix in version 33, but preliminary testing of the current beta version of Chrome 33 shows that the issue still exists.
D2L recommends using a different browser until Google Chrome has a release that resolves this issue.

D2L Document Viewer
We made some adjustments to our environment that appear to have alleviated the document viewer issue. We are still closely monitoring the viewer queue, and would appreciate your prompt reports if users experience the spinning “loading” icon when trying to view documents in Content or Dropbox.
D2L Email and Notification Delays
We also made some changes for email, and continue to monitor the email queue. This issue is still under investigation. If you experience delays, please report via the ticket system with details of the time the email was sent or notification alert occurred, and when the email was actually received.
Thanks for your patience on these issues.
Per MnSCU System Office:
The D2L document viewer is experiencing issues. In Content and Dropbox, users may see a spinning icon and a blank background, but the documents do not load. We are working to resolve the issue.
Users may download and view the documents as a temporary workaround.
We appreciate your patience as we work on alleviating the problem.

As far as technology itself and education is concerned, technology is basically neutral. It’s like a hammer. The hammer doesn’t care whether you use it to build a house or whether on torture, using it to crush somebody’s skull, the hammer can do either.
Campus Technology, a leading periodical in the use of technology in education, lists for consideration the 2014 technology trends for education:
- Mobile Platforms and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
- Adaptive Learning (personalization of online learning)
- Big Data (predictive analysis)
- Flipped Classroom
- Badges and Gamification (assessment and evaluation)
- iPADs and Other Tablets (mobile devices)
- Learning Management Systems (on SCSU campus – D2L)
The Journal
has a similar list:
- BYOD (it is a trend going up)
- Social Media as a Teaching and Learning Tool ( trend going up))
- Digital Badges (split vote, some of the experts expect to see the us of badges and gamification as soon as in 2014, some think, it will take longer time to adopt)
- Open Educational Resources (split vote, while the future of OER is recognized, the initial investment needed, will take time)
- Desktop Computers (it is a trend going down; every market shows a decline in the purchase of desktop computers)
- iPADs: (trend going up)
- ePortfolios (trend going down)
- Learning Management Systems, on SCSU campus – D2L (split vote). LMS is useful for flipped classroom, hybrid and online education uses CMS, but gradual consolidation stifles competition
- Learning Analytics, Common Core (trend going up)
- Game-Based Learning (split vote), but the gaming industry is still not to the point to create engaging educational games
Regarding computer operating systems (OS):
- Windows (trend going down)
- Apple / Mac OS X (split vote)
- iOS (iPhone, iPAD etc) (trend going up)
- Android (trend going up)
