We are experiencing some data base blocks on the D2L system that are affecting response times for users. The recent blocks occurred between 10:21 and 10:40. Users were unable to login, or got internal errors, or very slow response times for navigating in D2L.
The problems have been intermittent, with users getting fast responses after the blockage ends.
Our system admins are investigating the situation.
We will keep you posted on the status of system performance. Please continue to report any issues you experience.

Subject: Recording of MediaSpace (Kaltura) Update – from Friday, Aug 16
Here is the recording from the session Todd Digby facilitated last Friday. https://mnscu.webex.com/mnscu/lsr.php?AT=pb&SP=MC&rID=36606512&rKey=a145adbfd4947762
It’s the update of the Media Management System project, using Kaltura’s Media Space. The first 21 minutes (approx.) are of Todd showing how Media Space works, including how to upload caption files (if you have one), and just about everything there is to do in terms of uploading, recording, and managing files.
Starting at 21:50, Todd provides an update in the project status including when all faculty could expect to have access to MediaSpace. Thereafter, he addresses several questions from those in attendance.
If you want to see the questions that were asked, be sure to open the Chat window by clicking on the red box with the Chat bubble in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Q: Why aren’t the grade items in the correct categories when I copy them to a new course?
A: https://d2l.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1390/
Issue: In the Copy Course Components tool, if you select individual grade items rather than copying ALL grade items, the grade items do not stay associated with the correct categories. (This issue exists in the current version 10.1 SP9)
Workaround: In the Copy Course Components tool, copy all grade items into the new course and then simply remove the ones you don’t want from the new course.
Note: This issue only exists for Copy Course Components. If you export selected grade items, the grade category associations are retained accurately.
Q: Why can’t I see the user progress for a student who is withdrawn from a course?
A: There is a temporary workaround for this bug – https://d2l.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1375
Note: We have urged D2L to provide a fix for this issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, please use the workaround.

Qustion: Can I embed video into D2L discussion posts (ie. a youtube video)? |
|
Answer:
When trying to embed video into a D2L discussion, it breaks with a 500 error.
upon examination of the embed code, the protocol is missing from the source.
example:
<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”//www.youtube.com/embed/xtNhf0eA120?rel=0″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe> Note the src=”//www…..
SOLUTION: In order to successfully embed a video you’ll need to alter that bit of code to be http://www….. or https://www….
Reported this to the MnSCU D2L team, as the embed preview works.
Qustion:
Can you please share directions on how to import D2L items from a course last year into this fall’s D2L course. |
|
Login into your recent D2L course (the one you would to roll over content TO)
Click Edit Course
Click on Import/Export/Copy Components
Leave default Copy radiobutton selected and press Start
Scroll down to “Copy the selected course components from”
and scroll down the list of available D2L courses from your past (Select Offering)
From the selected course, taught in the past, choose the components, which you like to copy to your recent course. You can select all or only specific components. scroll down and click Continue when done
complete the process by following directions on the screen
I was asked for alternative sites to MERLOT (http://www.merlot.org/merlot/index.htm) after I shared my dissatisfaction with MERLOT high prices, e.g., cost for registration.
Here is what I have, pls feel free to add more, Plamen
I looked for somebody to work with me on Sophia when it started in 2012 (since, differently from Merlot, it is a social tool), but there was no interest on campus:
