A Beginner’s Guide to Flipped Classroom

Our 2018-2019 Global State of Digital Learning research study revealed some interesting insights about instructional approaches. It was taken by 9,279 education professionals from all across the country in various roles and districts.

When we look at instructional approaches most frequently used, the top ones are differentiated instruction (73.5%), blended learning (54.8%), and individualized learning (47.8%). And while flipped learning, personalized learning, and gamification command the most press, they aren’t being practiced as much as one might think. In many ways, this makes a lot of sense. These approaches require more time and resources than many of the others.

The attacks are coming from both the right and the left.

Stanley Fish, the literary theorist and veteran administrator, and a visiting professor of law at Yeshiva University, in New York City, thinks that most if not all academic-freedom controversies are simply unnecessary. His argument boils down to academic freedom as “the freedom to do the academic job” — no more, no less.

The assumption antagonists make, says Tiede, is that if a professor expresses a view in a public forum, she or he must be indoctrinating students. But to take punitive action, he says, a college should have to prove that there is inappropriate indoctrination in the pedagogical setting.

academic freedom diminishes not so much as a result of oppression but as stable academic jobs simply disappear. To balance their books, colleges are increasingly culling tenure lines and consolidating or eliminating departments. To fill the gap, in remote or hybrid programs, they share courses or even entire academic majors from other institutions.

Apart from offering a virtually interactive environment, VR also offers a myriad of variations in how and to what extent an environment is explorable.

VR technology can offer a fully immersive, non-immersive, and web-based VR experience. A great example of a non-immersive VR experience is a flight simulator which allows the user to experience an alternate reality with just a joystick controller and a PC. Non-immersive technologies are commonly used in architecture, industrial designing, and archeology through 3D designs, allowing users to create a replica of the real-life environment.
