An interactive map released by the Census Bureau Tuesday tracks where in the country there is a high concentration of people who speak a language other than English at home. According to the data, 58% of U.S. residents age 5 and older speak English “very well” and also speak a language other than English at home.

Nearly two-thirds of people who speak a language other than English at home speak Spanish (37.6 million). The third most-spoken language is Chinese (2.9 million), followed by Tagalog (1.6 million), Vietnamese (1.4 million), French (1.3 million), German (1.1 million), and Korean (1.1 million).

That state with the highest percentage of people who speak another language than English at home is California, with 44%. West Virginia has the lowest, with 2%. Laredo, Texas, is the metro area with the highest percentage, with 92%.

Hackers could acquire sensitive data through monitoring hard drive noises

PITA, the Portable Instrument for Trace Acquisitionattack, which uses electromagnetic wave detection equipment (available at any computer hardware store) that could “read” the electromagnetic pulses emanating from a standard laptop’s keyboard, including the keystrokes used to de-encrypt secure documents.

The new attack, called DiskFiltration, does something similar using the acoustic signals emitted from the movement of a computer’s hard disk drive (HDD).

One way to beat air-gap attacks, according to the researchers, is to switch to solid-state drives (SSDs), which have no moving parts and therefore emit no noise. However, according to the researchers, “despite the increased rate of adoption of SSDs, HDDs are still the most sold storage devices, mainly due to their low cost.

For Microsoft, this is a crucial victory: IBM has pre-existing relationships with many of the world’s largest businesses.
Late last year, Microsoft signed a Surface resale deal with Dell
Microsoft also today announced a reseller arrangement with Booz Allen Hamilton, a reseller of software and hardware that specializes in serving government agencies and the defense industry.
They’re already working together on custom, highly-secure Surface-powered solutions, and Booz Allen Hamilton is assisting in the US Department of Defense’s migration to Windows 10.
The first custom Surface solutions developed by IBM will focus on providing apps for financial services and packaged consumer goods, he says.
From IBM’s perspective, this is just another way for them to sit in the middle and provide the lucrative consulting, reselling and development work that they do best, for a range of devices that are proving very popular in both work and business.
icrosoft is also announcing today an expansion of its “Surface as a Service”          kind of like Apple’s iPhone subscription plans but for a business audience.
